Haunted at the House
Halloween evening we co-hosted Camp Virginia's first ever Haunted House at the Dusty Room. The Haunted House was a well-orchestrated labyrinth, inspired, directed and orchestrated by Justin and Will (aka S.Sgt. Pafford and Lt. Lindmier). MRW, Command Cell, USO and TMC had gathered all manner of disgust, blood, body parts, cadaver fluids, decomposed tissue and decaying corpses for the occasion. We also had a really creative makeup artist. The cast was sufficiently covered in gore and so well-rehearsed that they scared anyone who dared to enter. From the sounds of the screams and blood-curdling shrieks, and the looks of panic on the faces that emerged, it was obvious that something did indeed frighten every one of the 100 or so troops who entered the maze -- 70 or so of whom came out alive.
The best thing about Halloween was that so many people were able to participate in the planning, organization and implementation. Everyone who showed up – after being scared out of their willies -- could drink witches’ brew, eat cookies, candy, popcorn or brains, chill out, laugh, have fun and relax.
